Fidan and Shaibani discuss activating Türkiye-Syria High Joint Committee in Ankara
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Ankara to discuss developing ties, activating the countries’ High Joint Committee and regional developments; Shaibani also met U.S. envoy Tom Barrack in Istanbul.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani in Ankara on Thursday, discussing ways to develop relations between the two countries.
The ministers reviewed work to activate the Türkiye-Syria High Joint Committee, several files of mutual interest and the latest developments in the region.
Meeting with Barrack in Istanbul
Shaibani also met U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq Thomas Barrack in Istanbul. According to the Syrian side, they discussed "prospects for cooperation and coordination on various files of mutual interest, as well as efforts to support security and stability."
The meetings coincided with the official raising of the Syrian flag in Peace Square in central Hasakah, in northeastern Syria.
