An LNG tanker became the first shipment to pass eastward through the Strait of Hormuz following the peace agreement reached between the US and Iran. Data monitoring maritime traffic showed the vessel's route.
The ship is operated by India-based Petronet. It was reported that the tanker advanced towards the Gulf of Oman and from there into the Arabian Sea along its route.
The agreement includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the blockade imposed by the US Navy. The strait is a strategic waterway through which about one-fifth of the global oil supply passes.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the priority should be the swift and full implementation of the agreement by all parties. Von der Leyen emphasized that freedom of navigation in this critical passage must be restored "without transit fees."
The agreement emerged after long-standing diplomatic efforts, and this shipment passing through the strait is seen as the first concrete sign of the new era. This movement in maritime traffic is being closely monitored in terms of energy flow in the region.
