Hamas's newly elected Political Bureau Chief Khalil al-Hayya released his first video message after assuming office, announcing the movement's priorities. Al-Hayya listed the complete cessation of Israeli attacks, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the achievement of Palestinian national unity as the most important goals.
Addressing the people of Gaza, the Hamas leader said, "We will continue to work by all possible means and in every field until we free you from pain and suffering."
I want to reiterate one of our priorities: the complete cessation of Israeli attacks. Another priority is ensuring that Palestinians in Gaza can live a dignified life; this is their inalienable right.
Al-Hayya stated that national unity is also a priority, saying, "Therefore, we extend our hand to everyone. The current stage does not accept unilateral approaches or the exclusion of any segment."
Emphasis on the West Bank and Jerusalem
Al-Hayya said they would continue to work for the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, stating, "Protecting the West Bank is our responsibility and a duty incumbent upon us. We will continue the struggle in every field for Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Palestinian prisoners."
Touching on the ceasefire process in Gaza, the Hamas leader stated that they appreciated the intense efforts of mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey to stop the bloodshed. Al-Hayya called on the mediators to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to implement the ceasefire agreement and move to the next phase.
I appeal to the international community: If you cannot protect the people of Gaza, the concept of justice will completely disappear.
Expressing his belief that the Palestinian people and the resistance will inevitably achieve victory, al-Hayya said, "We will never give up Palestinian land."
PLO reform and call to the Islamic world
Khalil al-Hayya called for an urgent national dialogue and proposed reforming the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on a democratic and consensus-based basis. He stressed that this reform must ensure the full participation of all parties.
The Hamas leader stated that they intend to strengthen strategic relations with the Arab and Islamic world, and that they are open to cooperation with everyone in order to protect the Palestinian cause and end the occupation.
Al-Hayya called on Arab and Islamic countries to take effective steps, increase pressure to stop the massacre and genocide against the Palestinian people, and fulfill their fraternal, historical, and religious duties.
