Hate-related symbols and writings were found at Tawfieq Mosque in Schelle, Belgium, before Friday prayers on September 4.
Unidentified individuals drew hate messages and swastikas on the mosque’s doors and windows and poured dog feces at the entrance. The mosque’s board said the incident had come as a major shock to them.
The board filed a complaint with the police, and the investigation is ongoing.
Mohamed Amin Chaib, head of the Belgian Muslim Rights Monitoring Organization, argued that the incident was not an isolated act of vandalism. Describing it as a “disgusting and clear indication” of anti-Muslim hatred, Chaib called on local authorities to improve mosque security.
