Authorities in the French cities of Paris and Lyon extended curfews in parts of both cities on Wednesday for the third consecutive night after violence and looting occurred during protests across the country.
The Paris Police Prefecture said the curfew applies to adults and minors in designated areas around Place de la République and Les Halles, from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday. Gatherings and demonstrations were also banned in parts of the capital from 8 p.m.

The prefecture said the measures were implemented at the direction of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez to protect people and property. In Lyon, Rhône Prefect Étienne Gouyot also extended the curfew and banned gatherings.
France imposed local curfews in several cities after unrest accompanied protests on October 17 over rising living costs and deteriorating education conditions, while authorities prepare for new Yellow Vest demonstrations on Saturday.
