The Houthi-run health ministry and Al-Masirah TV said a Saudi airstrike hit the “Taiz Central Market” at the Mafraq Mawiyah junction in al-Ta’iziyah district, east of Taiz city, in a Houthi-held area, killing seven people and wounding 40.
Yemeni government military sources said the strikes targeted a Houthi camp and vehicles at the same junction, and three government military sources told Reuters the Houthis had recently set up a camp next to the market. There was no comment from Saudi Arabia or the coalition.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi aircraft carried out 27 strikes on Saturday on bridges and roads in Taiz, Marib, Saada, Amran, Ibb and Hajjah provinces.
The strikes came after Saudi Arabia said it intercepted two Houthi drones heading toward Riyadh; at least three schools in the Saudi capital moved to remote learning for a week. Saudi-Houthi fighting has escalated since the Houthis seized Yemen’s Red Sea coast in September.
