The Houthis strongly condemned the joint military attack by the US and Saudi Arabia on Iraqi territory. In a written statement issued on Wednesday by the Houthis' political office, the operation was described as 'unjust, cowardly and illegal' and a clear violation of international law.
The statement stressed that the Iraqi government, its army and its people have the right to respond to these attacks.
This condemnation came after joint US-Saudi airstrikes early Wednesday morning targeting military bases, logistical points and facilities belonging to Hashd al-Shaabi in various parts of Iraq.
According to a joint statement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the operation was carried out in response to more than 30 drone attacks from Iraq targeting Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure and US military bases in the region. The statement said that these attacks were directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and that the strikes targeted logistical and weapons facilities of Iran-linked terrorist groups. CENTCOM warned that if the IRGC and its terrorist proxies do not stop such attacks, they may face further US military action.
Meanwhile, Hashd al-Shaabi, which was targeted in the strikes, also condemned the operation. Hashd al-Shaabi said that attacks on its official facilities violate Iraq's sovereignty and pose a dangerous threat to the country's security institutions.
