Iran executed two individuals found to have engaged in espionage for Israel's Mossad intelligence service. Iran's judiciary announced that the death sentences of Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat have been carried out.
Officials announced that Mossad attempted to recruit agents inside Iran during the U.S. and Israeli military attacks that began on February 28, using both direct and indirect communication channels.
Military coordinates sent to Mossad
It was determined that Omid Behzad repeatedly sent the coordinates, geographic locations and information of military, law enforcement and security centers to Mossad-linked networks during the 40-day war. He used mapping software to geolocate and transmit the data. The manager of a Telegram channel linked to the Israeli regime said that after verification, the coordinates would be entered into the IDF target bank and forwarded directly to Mossad via a secure route.
Critical facility footage sent to Mossad
Authorities said that Pouria Safvat sent footage and information of critical facilities to Iran International, a television channel that is part of the Mossad-linked communication network. Some of the locations he provided were later bombed. According to the court file, Safvat filmed and transmitted videos of air defense systems from high rooftops during the 12-day war.
Both spies were captured by the intelligence unit of the Revolutionary Guards. They were convicted of intelligence cooperation with the Israeli regime and espionage, and their sentences were reviewed and approved by the Supreme Court before execution.
