Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a firm warning against any external intervention in the Strait of Hormuz during a phone call with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband. Araghchi stated that Iran and Oman are working on legal and technical mechanisms to manage maritime traffic in the region.
The Iranian minister stressed that intervention by any third party in the strait would undermine regional stability and further complicate the situation. He sharply criticized Britain’s recent policies, accusing London of being complicit in and involved in the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Araghchi also expressed concern over the UK's decision to designate the Iranian armed forces as a threat to British national security and called for a review of that policy. Citing international law, he said that countries whose territory is used for an attack by another state are considered participants in the act of aggression, which grants Iran the right to self-defense.
On the diplomatic process, Araghchi said Iran had previously taken constructive steps for peace and that a final agreement to stop the war was reached in mid-June. However, he claimed that the US broke its commitments and prevented the implementation of the agreement.
In response, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said the new British government is not seeking war and is not part of any military conflict against Iran. Miliband said London's priority is to continue diplomacy, reduce tensions, and improve bilateral relations.
