In a phone call, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mecid Ebn el-Rıza and Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler discussed regional developments, the ceasefire framework, and strengthening defense and security cooperation between their countries.
During the call, the Iranian minister stated that his country accepted the ceasefire in order to contribute to regional stability and at the request of friendly and neighboring states. However, emphasizing that they do not trust the US due to Washington’s long record of failing to honor agreements, Ebn el-Rıza noted that the Iranian Armed Forces are fully prepared to respond proportionally to any violation of the agreement.
Referring to Israel’s actions in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Iran, the Iranian defense minister said that US support has led to the continuation of the aggressive policies of the Zionist regime. Calling on Islamic countries for unity and practical coordination, Ebn el-Rıza said that joint action should be taken against destabilizing regional developments.
Reiterating Iran’s previously proposed idea of a “Islamic World Security Union,” Ebn el-Rıza said that this union should include countries such as Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Emphasizing that the recent conflicts have shown that regional security can only be achieved by regional states, the minister warned that the presence of foreign forces only increases insecurity and instability.
The Iranian official warned against Israel’s plans to create so-called security zones in Syria and Lebanon, saying these steps are moves toward broader regional instability. He also drew attention to recent statements from the US about the possibility of opening a new front in Lebanon against Hezbollah, which could escalate tensions in the region.
Underlining that security in the Persian Gulf should be managed by the region’s countries, Ebn el-Rıza said that relying on external powers cannot produce lasting stability. He stated that Iran is ready to continue consultations with Turkey and other regional actors to develop sustainable security arrangements.
Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, for his part, conveyed condolences during the call for the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyid Ali Khamenei, military commanders, civilians, and schoolchildren martyred in Minab. Güler reiterated Ankara’s support for full implementation of the ceasefire and continued diplomatic contacts.
Emphasizing that regional security can only be achieved through dialogue, cooperation and regional ownership, Güler said that Turkey supports the territorial integrity of neighboring states and is ready to expand cooperation with Iran on counter-terrorism, border security and regional issues.
Güler also stressed that regional cooperation is the only path to lasting peace, adding that Ankara supports initiatives aimed at de-escalation, counter-terrorism and strengthening regional stability.
