Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met with a high-level delegation from China's National People's Congress that arrived in Tehran for the funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
During the meeting, condolences were offered for Khamenei, whom Iran announced was martyred in the US-Israel attack on February 28, while both sides agreed to deepen bilateral parliamentary relations and regional cooperation.
The parties stressed their shared will to maintain and strengthen bilateral ties, enhance parliamentary relations, and hold closer consultations on regional and international issues.
China-Iran relations
China has been a key diplomatic partner for Iran throughout the conflict. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the US-Israel war on Iran as "illegal," while Beijing played a behind-the-scenes role in Pakistan-mediated peace talks.
The two countries are also members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS and have close economic ties. China is Iran's largest oil customer.
No official statement has yet been released regarding the details of the meeting.
