Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
According to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the call addressed the latest developments in the negotiation process between the US and Iran. In particular, the latest round of talks held last Tuesday in the Qatari capital Doha was assessed.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive progress made in this round and said they hoped the negotiations would bring a peaceful and comprehensive solution to the conflict in the region.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, however, told state television on Wednesday that the Iranian delegation's contacts in Doha were limited to the Qatari and Pakistani delegations, and that no meeting took place with the US side.
Gharibabadi stated that the Doha talks addressed the implementation mechanisms of the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,' particularly in the context of Lebanon and the frozen assets file.
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that a meeting would be held in Doha at Iran's request. The Tehran administration, however, stressed that no meeting would take place with the US delegation unless the provisions of the agreement reached on June 14, 2026, were implemented.
The memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the US on June 18 envisages a cessation of hostilities, the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The closure of the strait had led to a rise in oil and natural gas prices and an increase in inflation rates.
