Iraq's Prime Minister's Media Office announced that Wednesday has been declared a public holiday for a leader's funeral ceremony. The decision aims to facilitate attendance at the ceremonies, the office said.
All preparations have been completed for the funeral programs to be held in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, officials announced. They expect a large number of attendees from inside and outside the country and stated that there are no participation restrictions.
Najaf Governor Youssef Kanawi told the Iraqi News Agency that they have organized two separate programs. The first is an official ceremony to be held at Najaf International Airport on Tuesday. The ceremony will be attended by the heads of the executive, legislative, and judicial authorities, political bloc leaders, members of the Coordination Framework, MPs, and other official figures.
Governor Kanawi said the second program is a public march that will start at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The march will begin from the overpass near Sadr Hospital, pass through the old city area of Najaf, and end at the Imam Ali Shrine.
