Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said at a joint news conference in Rome with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani that the war that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran had caused about $60 billion in damage to the Iraqi economy.
Hussein said the continuation of the conflict was causing serious economic losses in Iraq, drawing attention to the war’s global impact.
Energy and inflation concerns
The Iraqi minister said the war had further deepened the global energy crisis and heightened concerns about rising inflation. He added that the conflict had hurt the economies of many countries, including European ones.

Call for a European diplomatic role
Stressing the importance of diplomatic efforts to contain tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading across the region, Hussein said the European Union and European countries should play an active role in reaching a settlement between the parties.

Hussein said such steps, which would help bring the parties back to the negotiating table, could ease tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading in the region.
Shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz
In earlier remarks, Hussein had said that disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz had reduced Iraq’s revenue from oil sales and caused serious losses to the country’s economy.
