During a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a shopping mall in Beersheba, in southern Israel, Maya Sherman held Netanyahu responsible for her son's death. The mother of Israeli hostage Ron Sherman, who died in Gaza in November 2023, identified Netanyahu as directly responsible for her son's death.
During the encounter, which took place as part of an election campaign, Sherman said Netanyahu had avoided meeting with her for three years. She said that, as a result, she had the opportunity to convey her thoughts directly when she came face to face with Netanyahu.
Maya Sherman's accusations
Sherman alleged that her son was responsible for transferring money from Qatar to Hamas and that he was executed on Netanyahu's orders. She also accused Netanyahu of abandoning 43 Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Maya Sherman, who argued that Ron Sherman was killed while the Israeli army was bombing Gaza, said: "There were no accidental shootings or incidents here; this was a deliberate killing and a bombardment carried out using poisonous gas."

Investigation into the deaths of the hostages
The Israeli army announced on December 14, 2023, that it had found the bodies of three Israeli hostages, including Ron Sherman, in a tunnel in the Gaza Strip, and launched an investigation into the incident.
In a subsequent statement, the army acknowledged that the three hostages had died during Israel's attack on Gaza. The statements that Ron Sherman was deliberately killed and that poisonous gas was used were presented as accusations Maya Sherman directed at Netanyahu.
