The Israeli military, which may require aerial refueling during long-range operations targeting Iran and Yemen, has added the second of six tanker aircraft purchased from the US to its fleet.
According to a statement issued by the Israeli military on Friday, the Boeing KC-46 tanker and transport aircraft was delivered at a ceremony held Thursday at Nevatim Air Base in the country's south. The aircraft was incorporated into the air force's Gideon 46 tanker fleet.
Second aircraft in a six-plane fleet
The aircraft is one of six tanker aircraft purchased for the air force by the Israeli Defense Ministry through its procurement mission in the US. The Israeli military described the delivery as part of the Defense Ministry's efforts to strengthen the military's capabilities.
The Boeing KC-46 tanker aircraft can refuel fighter jets in the air, enabling them to remain airborne longer and increasing their operational range. The aircraft also have advanced transport capabilities and can be used for different missions.
First aircraft delivered on May 27
The first aircraft in the six-plane fleet was delivered to the Israeli military on May 27. Some targets in Iran are located 1,500 to 2,000 kilometers from Israeli air bases, and most fighter jets cannot complete a round trip over that distance without aerial refueling.
As a result, Israel's air force may require aerial refueling during long-range operations targeting Iran and Yemen.
