Retired Saudi Armed Forces general Mohammed Saleh al-Harbi said relations between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia were at a high level, describing Türkiye as a reliable partner and ally.
Speaking on Al Jazeera, Harbi said Turkish companies were carrying out major projects in Saudi Arabia and that Saudi Arabia was developing its military partnership with Baykar. Harbi said Türkiye was one of NATO's powerful countries and noted that Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were acting to strengthen their regional positions and maintain strategic balance.
Rail link planned from Saudi Arabia to Türkiye
Harbi said an agreement signed by the two countries' transport ministers was the first step toward the planned railway project. He said the line was planned to begin in Saudi Arabia and reach Türkiye via Jordan and Syria, with a length of approximately 3,000 kilometers.
Harbi argued that the project would bring about a strategic transformation in social, historical, cultural and economic terms, saying the railway could affect global transport routes, supply chains and logistics.
Harbi said the line would connect Asia and Europe, adding that the project could create an alternative overland transport corridor between the Gulf countries, Türkiye and Europe.
Harbi said the railway was planned to be used for passenger and freight transport, as well as the movement of logistical cargo and products. He said the project would benefit all countries along the route.
Harbi said the benefits of the project would not be limited to Saudi Arabia, adding, "Everyone will benefit; no one will lose."
The retired general said further developing relations between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia would facilitate the implementation of joint projects and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in line with their regional interests.
