The Yemeni army targeted the King Khalid Air Base in the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait with domestically produced ballistic missiles. The attack, carried out on Saturday, came in response to the Riyadh administration's military operations and blockade against Yemen.
The missiles struck designated targets within the base with accuracy. On the same day, Yemeni forces also launched a missile attack on a Saudi Aramco oil facility in the southwestern Jizan region. The attack caused power outages in the area.
Loud explosions also rocked the port city of Yanbu. Shortly after the missile attacks, live air traffic tracking sites showed flights to Riyadh and other cities being diverted, and Yanbu and Jizan airports halting operations.
Shortly before these developments, Saudi warplanes had carried out airstrikes on Friday night targeting telecommunications facilities and oil depots in Yemen's strategic Hodeidah region. Yemen, for its part, had declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia on Monday.
