The International Islamic Publishing Workshop, focusing on publishing activities in the Islamic world, will be held at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University on September 25–27. More than 200 publishers from 67 countries are expected to attend the event in Istanbul.
The workshop will be organized by the International Association of Islamic Book Publishers with the support of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.
A platform for joint work in Islamic publishing
Publishers, institutions and experts will attend the gathering, where participants will exchange views on developing international cooperation, expanding work on copyright and translation rights, and implementing joint projects.
In addition to publishers and universities, civil society organizations, book distribution companies, libraries, copyright agencies, writers’ associations and professional publishing organizations will also send representatives to the workshop.
More than 30 international institutions and organizations, including the Türkiye International Islamic University of Science and Technology, the International Islamic University Malaysia, the International Islamic University Pakistan, the International Association of Islamic Schools and the Kuwait Islamic Book Fair, will support the event.
Agenda to be addressed in 12 sections
The workshop’s agenda includes copyright and translation rights, book distribution, libraries, academic publishing, Islamic children’s books, digital publishing and international book fairs.
Following the opening of the event, which will begin on September 25, an international session will be held on the position of Islamic publishing in a changing world.
Participants will assess current issues and the future of Islamic publishing in 12 separate sections. These sections will cover relations among members and international solidarity, culture and education, international book fairs, international relations, advertising and promotion, publishing and quality standards, and copyright and translation rights.
The other topics of the meetings will be research and report writing, the publication of Islamic children’s books, book distribution and libraries, legal issues, ethics and dispute resolution, digital publishing, data and technology.
Report to be prepared after the workshop
A report will be prepared after the meetings, where participants’ experiences and recommendations will be discussed. The reports will be presented to participants for consideration on the second day of the workshop.
The event aims to turn the recommendations that emerge into concrete international cooperation and strengthen the basis for joint work in Islamic publishing.
