Jordan will host the Arab Foreign Ministers Consultative Meeting next Monday. The official Jordanian news agency Petra announced that following this meeting, a continuation of the 165th regular session of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers will be held.
Nature of the Meeting
The reason this session is described as a 'continuation' is to complete the work of the Council's 165th regular session, which began on March 29, 2026. In Arab League Council meetings, it is a common practice to resume the same session later if some files require further consultation or new regional developments necessitate discussion and decision-making.
Agenda and Background
Prior to official meetings, a closed consultation session among Foreign Ministers is usually held. These sessions aim to overcome obstacles on contentious issues and bring viewpoints closer, thereby paving the way for a final communiqué to emerge with a common Arab vision.
While the Petra agency did not add details about the meeting's agenda, it noted that the gathering comes at a sensitive time as Israel's attacks on Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank continue.
The Arab League was founded in Egypt in 1945 and consists of 22 countries. The organization aims to develop cooperation among its members in political, economic, social, cultural, and security fields and to coordinate their positions.
