Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a meeting with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis at the Bürgenstock ski resort in Switzerland.
The two ministers discussed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to enhance them.
Regional Developments and Diplomacy
The meeting addressed recent regional developments and the diplomatic efforts to increase security and stability in the region, particularly following the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
The Qatari Prime Minister confirmed Qatar's full support for the planned negotiations between the US and Iran.
Al Thani stated that these negotiations would strengthen regional security and pave the way for cooperation, development, and prosperity for the peoples of the region and the world.
Postponement of Negotiations
Bürgenstock, where the meeting took place, was the location planned to host the US-Iran negotiations today. However, Switzerland and Iran announced that these negotiations have been postponed.
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs did not specify a reason for the postponement, while the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the start of the negotiations is contingent on the implementation of specific articles of the memorandum of understanding.
US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding' electronically last Wednesday evening.
This memorandum paved the way to end the war that began on February 28th, with the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
