Jordan's air defense systems successfully shot down five missiles that the army said came from Iran on Thursday morning. In a statement, the army said the missiles targeting Jordanian territory were detected and intercepted, and no casualties were reported.
This marked the fourth consecutive day of attacks on Jordan. On Wednesday, five missiles were shot down; on Tuesday, a drone was intercepted; and on Monday, two drones were neutralized.
Thursday's missile attack came shortly after US Central Command (CENTCOM) airstrikes on Iran. CENTCOM announced on X that dozens of military targets belonging to the Revolutionary Guards inside Iran were struck.
The US strikes were carried out in response to missile attack attempts against US forces on Wednesday. These developments indicate a resumption of direct targeting between Washington and Tehran.
The US had carried out attacks on Iran for 13 days until July 24, and Tehran had announced it was targeting US military facilities in Arab countries, primarily Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 and began negotiations for a final agreement.
However, a dispute arose over navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz. On February 28, in the US and Israeli attack on Iran, more than 3,000 people were killed according to Tehran, and Iran announced that Americans and Israelis were killed in counterattacks.
