Regional and international developments surrounding Iran were discussed during a meeting in New York between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The meeting took place on September 24 on the sidelines of high-level meetings held as part of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's press service said the ministers stressed that resolving the Iran crisis through diplomatic means had no alternative. The ministry's statement also said the crisis had been triggered by what it described as illegal actions by the United States and Israel.
Lavrov and Araghchi also discussed implementing the bilateral agreements reached following the meeting between the presidents held in Bishkek on September 1, 2026.
The meeting also included a comparison of schedules for future contacts planned between Russia and Iran at various levels.
