Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met at the Baabda Presidential Palace on Friday as Israeli attacks on villages and towns in southern Lebanon and military activity along the border continued.

Aoun briefs Salam on Paris talks
The meeting at the palace east of the capital Beirut addressed regional and domestic issues as well as developments in southern Lebanon. Aoun briefed Salam on the outcomes of his talks in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
The meeting also covered discussions held during a preparatory session for an international conference to support the Lebanese army and the Internal Security Forces. Aoun also congratulated Salam after the Lebanese Parliament renewed its vote of confidence in the government following discussions on its program.
The United Nations General Assembly proceedings, which Salam will lead the Lebanese delegation to and which are scheduled to begin next Tuesday, were also discussed. The agenda included a meeting expected to be held in Washington to discuss the situation in Lebanon, as well as the Council of Ministers’ continued discussions on the general budget bill.
Fire and military activity in southern Lebanon
Israeli artillery fire and military activity continued in various parts of southern Lebanon during the leaders’ meeting. Israeli vehicles advanced around some border towns.
Israeli forces advanced toward the outskirts of Deir Mimmas and reached the junction near a position recently established by the Lebanese army. In the Bint Jbeil district, Israeli vehicles advanced from the town of Tayri toward the outskirts of Hadatha, from the direction of Haris.
Israeli artillery shells struck Wadi Nahle on the outskirts of Shaqra. Artillery fire targeting the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in other parts of southern Lebanon resumed Friday morning. The sound of the intensified overnight fire was heard in the city of Tyre and in some villages and towns in the south.
Numerous artillery shells fell on Wadi al-Azziya in the morning. Israeli forces used illumination flares overnight over Hadatha and Ayta ash-Shab in the Bint Jbeil district.

The framework formula in Washington
Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a “framework formula” in Washington on June 26 under American mediation. The formula provides for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the areas vacated.
In previous statements, Aoun said the greatest challenge in the south was the withdrawal of Israel from the villages and towns it occupied and the deployment of the Lebanese army up to the international border. He also said Lebanon was working with its partners to exert pressure for compliance with the framework agreement.
Figures released by Lebanon’s Health Ministry
Despite the signing of the framework formula, Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have continued, while some areas in the south remain under Israeli control. Some of these areas have been controlled for decades, while others were taken during the latest war and military operations.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli attacks killed 4,386 people and injured 12,407 between March 2 and September 17. According to ministry figures, the overall toll since October 8, 2023, has reached 8,953 deaths and 30,643 injuries.
