Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced a plan to ban burqas and headscarves in schools and impose a legal limit on the number of foreign students.
Meloni spoke on Sunday at Fenix, a national youth festival organized by the youth wing of the Brothers of Italy party. Saying that Italian children should not feel like a minority in their classrooms, Meloni said the government planned to introduce a legal limit on the number of foreign students in schools.
Prime Minister Meloni said burqas and headscarves would be banned in schools. She also said parents of foreign students struggling to integrate into the school system would be required to learn Italian.
Meloni said the regulation is expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers soon, making clear that the plan has not yet entered into force.
