Iran shut a French-language center in Tehran linked to the French Embassy over “illegal activities.”
Iran alleged that the center had operated for years under the guise of providing language instruction despite repeated warnings to obtain the necessary license.
Iran also accused the center of carrying out projects against Iranian-Islamic culture and targeting the country’s national security. The center was further accused of identifying and organizing members of the elite and facilitating their departure from the country.
France did not immediately comment on the closure.
Tensions between the two countries had also come to the fore last month when France expelled Iranian diplomats, after Iran took a similar step on the grounds that French diplomats were interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
