Parents Against Child Detention released figures on Palestinian children being held without charge in Israeli prisons. The organization examined data published by the Israel Prison Service on the number of detainees.
The organization said the number of Palestinian children held by Israel under its "administrative detention" system rose from 103 in January 2025 to 191 in March 2026.
The total number rose to 383
The total number of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons also increased by 26 percent during the same period, rising from 303 in January 2025 to 383 in March 2026.
The number of Palestinian children held without charge for more than a year rose from 6 to 50. The organization said some children had been held in Israeli prisons for more than two years.
Carmel highlights ill-treatment
Titi Carmel, director of Parents Against Child Detention, said children separated from their families were subjected to very harsh treatment.
Carmel said Palestinian children were being held in prisons on the basis of secret evidence or without a trial, adding that they were kept behind bars under severe conditions.
How is administrative detention applied?
Administrative detention is defined as a practice that allows Israel to detain Palestinians in the territories it occupies without bringing charges against them. Under this system, people can be held for up to six months without being informed of the charges against them or being allowed to defend themselves.
After the six-month period, the detention of people referred to military courts can be extended repeatedly for up to five years without the charges being disclosed to them.
Data on Palestinian detainees
According to data from Palestinian human rights organizations, more than 9,600 Palestinians, including approximately 350 children and 84 women, are being held in Israeli prisons.
Reports published by these organizations state that detainees have been subjected to torture, medical neglect and ill-treatment.
