Sharif expresses solidarity with Saudi Arabia
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity was unequivocal. In a statement on Friday, Sharif said this position was shaped within the framework of the new trilateral Mecca Alliance formed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Sharif said Pakistan fully supports Saudi Arabia’s legitimate right to protect its people, cities and critical infrastructure. The Pakistani prime minister said, "Pakistan stands in unwavering solidarity with the leadership and people of the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
The statement came after Yemen’s Houthis targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport. Civilians were killed and injured in the attacks.
Call issued under the Mecca agreement
In a statement posted on X, Sharif referred to the latest decisions taken under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement and by the Strategic Political and Defense Committee. The Pakistani prime minister said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security remained unchanged within this framework.

Praising the Saudi armed forces and coalition forces for intercepting numerous ballistic missiles, Sharif said he appreciated the efforts to protect the lives of innocent people and ensure the country’s security. Addressing the Houthis, Sharif said, "They must immediately stop these attacks. We will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia in the face of these threats."
Missiles launched toward Riyadh and Khamis Mushait
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Thursday that it had intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh and Khamis Mushait.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, meanwhile, claimed that his group had targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with a ballistic missile. Saree said the attack disrupted air traffic.
The agreement forming the Mecca Alliance between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan was signed on Aug. 7. The three countries later took various steps to institutionalize the agreement.
