Seven people were killed and 11 injured in an attack by Yemen’s Houthis on the Tehame commercial vessel as it sailed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the attack, saying that three Pakistani nationals had been killed and another Pakistani national had been injured. Dar offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
Dar said such attacks on non-military commercial vessels violated international law, adding that they threatened freedom of navigation and maritime security.
The Yemen Coast Guard announced that it had evacuated the dead and injured from the vessel in coordination with rescue teams affiliated with the armed forces. Some crew members who were Pakistani and Indonesian nationals were also rescued by the teams.
