Sheikh Ikrime Sabri, Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Chairman of the Jerusalem Supreme Islamic Council, reacted to the opening of an embassy in occupied Jerusalem by the region known as Somaliland, located in the northwest of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Sheikh Sabri stated that any political or diplomatic move regarding Jerusalem will not legitimize the Israeli occupation nor change the city's historical and national status.
Highlighting the need for increased solidarity among Muslims and Arabs due to the situation in occupied Jerusalem, Sheikh Sabri called on Muslim countries to leave behind any disputes that weaken them and to act in unity.
Emphasizing the necessity of unity among Arab and Muslim peoples to face the challenges in the region, Sabri also expressed his dissatisfaction with separatist movements in Somalia. He affirmed that the status of Jerusalem will not change with the opening of the embassy and that Jerusalem will remain Palestinian.
Sheikh Sabri criticized rapprochement with Israel, which occupies Palestinian lands, stating that such steps do not serve the causes of Muslims.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Somaliland opened a so-called Israeli embassy in Jerusalem on Monday. It was also noted that Abdirrahman Muhammed Abdullahi, President of the Somaliland region, met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog during his visit to Israel.
