Syria’s Internal Security Forces Command announced that two people were killed in an armed clash in the Sayyida Zeinab area south of Damascus on Friday evening.
The command, which is affiliated with the Interior Ministry, said its teams became suspicious of two masked individuals standing by the roadside while conducting a night patrol to monitor roads leading to barracks and government centers.
An armed clash broke out after the suspects opened fire on the patrol team when officers attempted to stop them for an identity check. The two suspects were killed in the clash.
The command said an examination of the scene found that the men had been attempting to plant explosive devices as part of an attack targeting a government institution. It added that explosive devices and weapons were found on the suspects.
The command said the two suspects who were killed had been identified as being linked to ISIS.
Syria’s participation in the coalition against ISIS
Damascus joined the international coalition established in November 2025 to combat ISIS. Formed under U.S. leadership in 2014, the coalition carried out operations against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
