The Syrian administration hosted a business delegation from Germany in Damascus as part of efforts to break international isolation and strengthen economic ties. Syrian Economy and Industry Minister Nidal al-Shaar held a meeting with the delegation headed by Michael Suss, representative of the German Near and Middle East Business Association.
According to the Syrian official news channel Al-Ikhbariya, the meeting was attended by representatives of numerous German companies, as well as an official from the Syrian-German Business Council and the European Department.
The development of economic cooperation between the two countries, investment opportunities in priority strategic sectors, and ongoing reforms in Syria were the main agenda items of the meeting.
Minister al-Shaar stated that his country is ready to build solid economic bridges, saying, 'Syria is an open country and we welcome all investors who wish to contribute to the development and reconstruction process.' The minister also stressed that the ministry is determined to present the economic and investment reality in a transparent and clear manner.
This contact also reflects the desire of some circles in Europe to explore the Middle East and especially the Syrian market following the overthrow of the deposed leader Bashar al-Assad's regime.
