Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaybani held a phone call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Saturday.
According to a statement from the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the call covered regional and international developments as well as strengthening relations between the two countries and developing cooperation in various fields. The statement stressed that this cooperation would serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
France had closed its embassy in Damascus and severed diplomatic relations in 2012 to protest the toppled regime's suppression of the Syrian revolution. The French government now aims to reshape its relations with the new Syria on the basis of mutual interests, security and humanitarian dossiers.
