Syrian Justice Minister Muzhir el-Vais ordered a two-hour suspension of hearings in all courts on Sunday in solidarity with the lawyers killed in the bombing that took place last Thursday in the capital Damascus.
In a statement on his X account, Minister el-Vais said, "We issued a circular to suspend hearings for two hours in all courthouses on Sunday in solidarity with our esteemed lawyer partners in the administration of justice and in loyalty to the innocent blood unjustly shed by treacherous terrorism."
The Syrian Bar Association also issued a circular to suspend hearings in all Syrian courts on Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00. The association stated that the decision was taken to "mourn the souls of colleagues who were martyred while performing their professional and humanitarian duties under the roof of justice in the treacherous terrorist attack that targeted the vicinity of the Palace of Justice in the Hamidiye area of Damascus."
Syria's official news agency SANA, citing the Ministry of Health, reported that the death toll from the attack rose to 10 and the number of wounded to 21.
The Syrian Interior Ministry announced that the explosion occurred around 15:00 approximately 70 meters west of the Palace of Justice. Initial investigations indicated that the blast was caused by a primitive improvised explosive device weighing about 1 kilogram and reinforced with metal shrapnel. The incident reportedly caused severe injuries and extensive material damage.
