A meeting between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and members of the Syrian community in New York featured a notable moment when he asked to replace the seat assigned to him with a regular chair.
In a video of the meeting, al-Sharaa joked that he had asked last year to sit on a regular chair "out of humility," but discovered that the seat was uncomfortable. He therefore asked for it to be replaced this time, prompting a reaction from those attending.
The incident took place during al-Sharaa's meeting with a delegation of members of the Syrian community in the United States, at the start of his visit to New York to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh attended the meeting, along with several Syrian officials.
