Speaking at the opening of the International Syrian Textile Fair 'Nas Tex 2026' at the Congress Palace in Damascus, Syrian President Ahmed Shara stressed that the textile industry is inseparable from Syria's historical and economic identity. He said the fair marks a creative starting point for reconstruction, poverty alleviation and job creation for thousands.
The Syrian President noted that the reconstruction process rests on civil peace, national unity, stability and security, and economic growth. Shara added that Syria seeks to consolidate peace and build balanced relations with countries that engage with sincerity.
Syrian Economy Minister Muhammed Nidal al-Shaar said the fair sends a message of confidence in Syria's return to its natural position as a production, industrial and trade hub in the region. The minister noted that the textile sector, a mainstay of the Syrian economy for decades, has carried Syria's name to global markets through product quality and the skill of its craftsmen.

Al-Shaar said the ministry's vision is to create a more open and competitive investment environment, remove obstacles to production, modernize industry, encourage innovation and increase exports. He noted that they aim to make the 'Made in Syria' label a symbol of quality and excellence.
Fadi al-Muheymid, founder of the fair and Chairman of the High Committee, said 'Nas Tex' is the largest textile gathering in the region. 'We are on a platform where industry meets investment. Nations are measured by their production power; those who produce today shape tomorrow,' he said.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sarp Erzi, Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, and Mehmet İhsan Özdemir, Presidential Communications Advisor, as well as company representatives and guests from many countries.
Held from 18 to 21 July 2026, 'Nas Tex 2026' aims to revitalize Syria's textile sector and connect it with technology, financing and exports. Spread over 150,000 square meters, the fair features more than 300 exhibitors from over 25 countries, showcasing products and technologies in fabrics, clothing, home textiles, machinery, yarn and raw materials. Digital transformation solutions and modern industrial techniques are also on display.
In Syria, the 61-year Baath regime ended on 8 December 2024 when opposition groups took control, and Ahmed Shara was declared transitional president on 29 January 2025. A constitutional declaration signed on 13 March 2025 set the transition period at five years.
