Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters marched through Liverpool on September 26 toward the venue of the governing Labour Party’s annual conference, demanding an end to UK arms sales to Israel and wider sanctions over the war in Gaza.
The march, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other groups, set off at noon from St George’s Plateau in the city centre. Demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and placards reading “Free Palestine” and “Stop Arming Apartheid.”
Protesters urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to go further, saying sanctions his government announced earlier this month on illegal Israeli settlements do not go far enough. Activists also called for lifting the ban on Palestine Action, in force since July 2025, under which more than 3,600 people have been arrested.
The march was organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign together with groups including the Stop the War Coalition, Friends of Al-Aqsa, the Muslim Association of Britain and the Palestinian Forum in Britain. On Sunday, Defend Our Juries held a silent sign-holding vigil near the conference for the banned group Palestine Action; about 200 to 250 people took part, and British media reported at least two arrests under the Terrorism Act.
