U.S. President Donald Trump made striking remarks about presidential authority and the use of force following military tensions with Iran. Trump argued that there are no limits on the authority to use force after this process.
In an interview with U.S.-based Axios, Trump responded to a question by saying, "I know there are limits, but there are no limits here." The president also stated that he has not learned any lessons on this matter.
Trump claimed that they have completely defeated Iran militarily and described the U.S. military as the most powerful in the world. He noted that under the naval blockade imposed on Iran, "not a single ship has been able to pass."
Trump argued that no other country could enforce such a blockade in the same way and explained that some attempts had failed. He said the pressure on Iran has been effective through this method.
When asked whether the U.S.-Iran agreement meant "unconditional surrender" demanded primarily from Tehran, Trump said it was "probably truly an unconditional surrender."
Trump's statements have reignited debate over whether the president can unilaterally decide on military action against Iran. Democrats in Congress and some Republicans have argued that such authority should require Congressional approval.
