US President Donald Trump sharply rejected Iran's public narrative of the deal. Trump argued that the conditions conveyed by Tehran do not align with the written agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the leaked provisions from Iran had no relation to the agreed text. He also described Iran's statement as false.
The US President emphasized that both parties need to accelerate the process, increasing pressure on the deal negotiations. In the same statement, he also targeted Iranian officials with harsh words.
A Different Framework from Washington
A senior US official claimed that Iran accepted five key points in the deal. These include the destruction of Iran's nuclear material and dismantling of the program.
According to the official, frozen Iranian assets will not be released until conditions are met. It was also asserted that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open and Iran will not finance armed groups under the same framework.
Tehran Presents a Different Picture
Iran, however, painted a different picture. Iran's official news agency reported that the removal of enriched nuclear material is not on the table.
Iran also stated it will continue to claim management over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the initial memorandum, both sides will negotiate for 60 days, with provisions on enrichment rights and protection of existing nuclear material possibly included in the final text.
Uncertainty Persists Between the Parties
This sharp exchange over the deal's content occurred amid Washington and Tehran's mutual efforts to appear dominant. Trump had said yesterday that the parties reached a major agreement that could be signed in Europe over the weekend; however, Tehran emphasized that it is not yet finalized.
Trump had repeatedly claimed that a peace deal with Iran was imminent, but no concrete outcome has emerged. It is reported that this statement has been repeated dozens of times since early August.
After the fragile ceasefire on April 7, Trump claimed a complete and decisive victory for the US. Nevertheless, intermittent clashes continue in the region, and a lasting agreement remains unclear.
