U.S. President Donald Trump said late on Monday, Oct. 12, that he does not believe China and Russia are helping Iran in the ongoing war, pushing back on critics and opponents who say the two countries are backing Tehran.
“If they are, it’s at a very low level, but I don’t believe they are at all. They have too much to lose, and we would know about it, and know about it very fast,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Reports point the other way

His remarks run counter to reports that China supplied Iran with shoulder-fired air-defense missile launchers and helped Tehran evade sanctions on its oil sales. An official also told Bloomberg last week that Russia is providing Iran with missiles.
In September, Trump dismissed a report that Iran obtained satellite images of a base in Jordan from Chinese entities before a July attack that killed three U.S. troops.
A shifting line
Trump’s position has shifted over the course of the war. Earlier, he said Russia “might be” helping Iran “a little bit.” In July, he said he trusted China and Russia not to help Tehran but warned it “would be very bad for them” if they did. He has described Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin as “neutral” in the conflict.

When Xi visited Washington last month, Trump warned him against supporting Iran, and Xi gave assurances that China would not do so, according to the U.S. ambassador to China.
The war so far
The United States and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28, and Iran retaliated against Israel and Gulf states that host U.S. bases. Beijing has condemned the U.S. strikes as a brazen violation of Iran’s sovereignty, while Moscow has warned that the war could trigger a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.
