Summit framework
Trump's visit takes place within the framework of the 36th NATO Summit, hosted by Turkey in Ankara on July 7-8. The summit, chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, is attended by the leaders of the 32 member countries; Turkey is hosting a NATO summit for the second time, 22 years after the 2004 Istanbul Summit.

One of the most talked-about parts of the program is Trump's bilateral meeting with the Syrian President. Recent contacts between the two countries have made this meeting one of the summit's highlights. In Trump's meeting with Zelenskyy, the war in Ukraine and the alliance's support for Kyiv are expected to be discussed.
