Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Ferhat Alkan said every Somali—from Mogadishu, Berbera, Garoowe, Kismayo, Beledweyne, Bosaso, Hobyo, Warsheikh, Baidoa and Marka—holds a special place in the hearts of the Turkish people.
In his speech at the Republic Day ceremony on October 29, Alkan added: "Our friendship embraces all Somalis from every region and community, and from all walks of life, without discrimination."

Sixty years of diplomatic relations
The ambassador noted that Türkiye and Somalia are celebrating this year the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, while also gratefully commemorating the 15th anniversary of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan’s visit to Somalia, stressing that "this historic visit continues to light our way."
Alkan explained that the friendship between the two countries goes beyond diplomatic relations, resting on trust, solidarity and friendly ties between the two peoples. He noted that Türkiye stood by Somalia during its most difficult moments and continues to stand by the Somali people today.
Cooperation across multiple fields
The ambassador noted that cooperation between the two countries covers numerous fields, including energy, security, health, education, infrastructure, fisheries, space technology, international connectivity, and humanitarian and technical assistance.
Alkan expressed his appreciation to the Somali Federal Government, the federal member states, the Somali people and the Somali diaspora for their friendship, hospitality and continued commitment to strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
