U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced that the new agreements signed during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to Washington cover a wide area from the Kurdistan Region in the north to the south of the country.
Wright told Kurdistan24 Washington Bureau Chief Rahim Rashidi, "Today was a great day. A series of commercial agreements were signed between U.S. businesses and Iraq, from Kurdistan in the north to central and southern Iraq."
Wright emphasized that the agreements are not limited to one region but aim to support projects throughout Iraq. The U.S. energy secretary said, "We want trade, not conflict, in Iraq and the Middle East. Prosperity for the Iraqi people, prosperity for the U.S. It was a great day."
According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office, institutions from both countries signed a total of 48 agreements and memorandums of understanding across a wide range of areas including energy, electricity, telecommunications, technology, education, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and industrial development.

The agreements, with energy cooperation at the center, diversify the economic partnership by channeling it into emerging industries and strategic infrastructure investments. In digital transformation, a partnership was announced in line with talks in the Kurdistan Region, where regulatory procedures have been completed to launch SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service in Iraq.
In the financial sector, a new understanding was reached between the Central Bank of Iraq and the U.S. Treasury Department that supports banking modernization and improves the conditions necessary to attract international investment.
Wright's remarks underscored the U.S. strategy of boosting prosperity by deepening trade and economic ties in the region.
