Iran escalated tensions in the Middle East by launching a new missile and drone attack on Jordan and Bahrain. The attacks on Tuesday expanded the scope of Iran's military actions targeting US allies in the region.
Jordan’s air defenses down Iranian missiles
The Jordanian Armed Forces announced that their air defense systems detected and destroyed three Iranian missiles targeting the kingdom. The statement said there were no casualties or damage.
Earlier, the Jordanian army announced it had downed five Iranian drones heading toward the country. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the drone operation, stating it targeted “a complex housing US terrorist forces” in the Rukban area near the Jordan-Syria border.
Air raid alert in Bahrain
In neighboring Bahrain, authorities activated nationwide air raid sirens after the kingdom's military thwarted what it described as “multiple Iranian air attacks.”
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry, in a statement on X, called on citizens to remain calm and go to the nearest safe place. Bahrain’s Defense Force later confirmed that its air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed several Iranian air threats. No casualties or damage were reported in the incident.
US issues global alert and retaliatory strikes on Iran
As the conflict spread beyond Iran and the Gulf, the US State Department issued a worldwide security alert urging American citizens to exercise increased caution. The department warned that the ongoing conflict raised the risk of attacks on US diplomatic facilities and locations associated with American citizens worldwide.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had struck military targets in Iran on Monday night. CENTCOM reported that US forces targeted Iranian military command centers, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems in order to reduce Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest tit-for-tat attacks show an escalation of the regional conflict, with Iran moving beyond direct confrontations with US forces to target neighboring countries like Jordan and Bahrain that host American military assets. The expanding conflict has heightened concerns about regional stability, international maritime routes, and civilian safety.
