Voting has begun at diplomatic missions abroad ahead of Israel’s general elections. While elections across the country are planned for October 27, the voting process will be limited to personnel serving at diplomatic missions and their family members.
The process is expected to last approximately 30 hours, with polling stations opening during the daytime according to the local time in the countries where the embassies are located.
101 polling stations to be established at 99 missions
Voters will cast ballots at a total of 101 polling stations at 99 diplomatic missions abroad. Around 4,800 voters are expected to use these polling stations.
The right to vote abroad is limited to diplomatic representatives, diplomatic mission employees and their family members.

Voting process begins in New Zealand
The first polling station opened at 9 a.m. local time at the Israeli Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand. This corresponded to 11 p.m. Wednesday in Israel.
The Israeli Embassy in Fiji began accepting ballots one hour after the polling station in Wellington opened. The process is scheduled to conclude at the consulates in San Francisco and Los Angeles in the United States.
Voting in San Francisco and Los Angeles is expected to end at 8 p.m. local time. This corresponds to 6 a.m. Friday in Israel.
Ballots to be sent to the Knesset
Once voting abroad ends, the ballots will be transported by plane to Israel and sent to the country’s parliament, the Knesset, for counting.

Polls show that neither the bloc backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor the Jewish opposition bloc can reach the 61 seats needed to form a government on its own in the 120-seat Knesset.
Netanyahu has led the current government since late December 2022. His coalition is described as the most right-wing government in Israel’s history.
Netanyahu also faces charges of corruption, bribery and breach of trust in three separate cases. The International Criminal Court has had an arrest warrant for Netanyahu since 2024 over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
More than 74,000 people have been killed in Israel’s war in Gaza since October 2023.
