The Yemeni army carried out a new military operation against the Houthis in Taiz province. The 35th Armored Brigade, affiliated with government forces, announced on Monday that its artillery units targeted and struck a Houthi military patrol vehicle.
The statement said that 'a large number of Houthi elements, including dead and wounded, were neutralized.' It added that the attack occurred while armed militiamen were attempting to infiltrate the al-Saile area, located under the Nakil al-Salav road southeast of Taiz.
35th Armored Brigade: 'A military patrol vehicle belonging to Houthi militiamen was struck by artillery fire.'
The media center of the Taiz military axis also announced in another statement the same day that soldier Nawfal Awad was martyred in clashes on the al-Ahtub front, which is affiliated with the Jabal Habashi district west of the province. The statement added that the soldier lost his life 'while carrying out his sacred national duty to protect the honor of Taiz.'
The Houthis have not yet commented on these two statements.
One day earlier, the Yemeni army announced on Sunday that five Houthi militiamen were killed during a failed infiltration attempt targeting the strategic Mount Han west of Taiz city.
Despite a partial ceasefire in Yemen that has been in place since April 2022, clashes have intensified again since last July. Some fronts witnessed the most violent fighting since 2022, with dozens of casualties on both sides. The Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes on Houthi positions in July for the first time since 2022, while the Houthis claimed to have launched attacks on vital targets in Saudi Arabia.
