As the new school year approaches in Iraq, the Yetim Foundation distributed school-supply kits to 800 orphaned students in Baghdad and Kirkuk.
The initiative, carried out in coordination with the Turkmen Development and Humanitarian Aid Association, provided students with kits containing the school supplies they will use throughout the academic year.
250 students in Baghdad and 550 in Kirkuk
Yetim Foundation Chairman Murad Yılmaz said that 250 of the students who received assistance were in Baghdad and 550 were in Kirkuk.
Yılmaz said the aid initiative aimed to help children prepare for the new school year and share in the joy of its start. He said education was as important to children as air, water and bread, adding that the school-supply kits contained most of the materials the students would need throughout the year.
Financial assistance for orphaned families
In addition to providing school supplies, the Yetim Foundation offers financial assistance to families of orphaned children in need in Iraq.
Susen Abdulvahid Cudu, a member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, and Enes al-Wendawi, chairman of the Turkmen Development and Humanitarian Aid Association, thanked the foundation for its contributions.
