Israeli security forces detained a U.S. citizen on suspicion of spying for Iran.
According to a statement from Israeli police, the 20-year-old American, who resides in the country, was detained earlier this month. The suspect is alleged to have photographed and documented sensitive areas in connection with Iranian intelligence.
As part of the investigation, it was determined that the young man received amounts ranging from tens to hundreds of dollars for each task. The detention was carried out in a joint operation by Israeli police and the internal intelligence agency Shin Bet.

Israeli police investigation official Amihay Benta said that in recent months, numerous individuals spying for the enemy have been uncovered, with some carrying out these acts during the war and aiding the enemy's plans. Benta stated, "In cooperation with Shin Bet, we will continue to monitor, uncover such crimes, and bring to justice anyone who endangers state security."
According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, dozens of Israeli citizens, including soldiers, have been arrested over the past two years on suspicion of spying for Iran in exchange for payment.
Meanwhile, the war that began on February 28 between Israel, the U.S., and Iran ended on June 18 with a memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran, following the declaration of a temporary ceasefire on April 8. During the war, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting wide areas within Israel, and Israeli authorities imposed strict censorship on the extent of losses. The agreement provides for a cessation of hostilities, the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade against Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
