The meeting in Ankara focused on potential joint steps in the energy sector between Türkiye and Lebanon. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar discussed electricity, natural gas and oil with Lebanese Energy and Water Minister Joseph Saddi and his accompanying delegation.
The sides assessed the development of regional electricity, natural gas and oil connection networks between the two countries. Joint projects that could be implemented in the oil and natural gas sectors were also discussed.
Bayraktar said Türkiye was ready to share its experience, expertise and capacity in the energy sector with Lebanon. The goal is to strengthen cooperation through projects that will benefit both sides.
Lebanon’s energy needs
Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water announced that Joseph Saddi held a working meeting with Bayraktar in Ankara. The ministry said the meeting covered cooperation in various areas of the energy sector.
The ministry said the Turkish side was interested in establishing an electricity connection, supplying natural gas to Lebanon and operating in oil exploration blocks in Lebanon. Solar and clean energy investments, as well as conventional power plants, were also on the agenda.
The two sides established a team to maintain communication and follow up on energy-related matters.
Energy cooperation between Ankara and Beirut
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun traveled to Ankara in late July and met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The visit was the first official visit to Türkiye by a Lebanese president in 17 years.
At a joint news conference, Aoun said the visit had launched a new period in bilateral relations based on partnership, trust and a commitment to work together.
Erdoğan said support for strengthening Lebanon’s institutional capacity would continue, along with humanitarian and technical assistance to the country.
