Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced C$100 million in new international aid for Palestinians during his participation in meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Carney said C$80 million of the new package would be allocated to humanitarian assistance to meet the urgent needs of Palestinians.
The remaining C$20 million would support capacity-building efforts in peace and security as part of Canada's continued support for Palestinians.
The aid is expected to contribute to humanitarian efforts directed at Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
C$80 million for humanitarian assistance
Humanitarian support accounts for the largest share of the package announced by Canada, amid the difficult humanitarian conditions facing civilians affected by the war.
Carney's announcement coincided with meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where developments in Gaza, the Palestinian issue and efforts to achieve a two-state solution featured prominently in diplomatic discussions.
